The characters were all, ALL, incredibly unlikeable. Eddie was probably the least unlikeable and seemed mostly ok, except for some reason seemed to hate everything about Jane’s job and automatically disagreed with her and put her down when she tried to talk about it with him. Red flag there, Jane! Initially the focus is on identifying the victim, until another body is found hidden in the walls of the shelter. I have lived in China for the past 2O years,so getting English novels is not easy,although found odd ones on the internet here. So,my sister posts some to me,probably buys in Waterstones. Last year she sent a couple of your books,this year a couple more, including WIDOWS REVENGE,but this is the second one in the series,so cannot read it yet I am now hooked on them, have you any idea where they are available here. I am a 77 year old avid reader with a Chinese wife.I am preparing a new list to send to her, but if you have any idea where they may be available in China, would be great. I live in Suzhou City, about 60 miles inland from Shanghai. Reply My first book from Lynda, I enjoyed her writing style this is a classic police procedural. There is an insta love element in here it was overdone in my opinion and not necessary in the book it really didnt add any value. This book is #8 in the series, I would be keen to go to the beginning to read these books and the other cases out main character worked on where mentioned in this book and i was intrigued.

In the time period it’s set, surely this was a huge expense, and whilst international phone calls were expensive too, they would have been a damn sight cheaper than sending two coppers over for 36 hours. So so strange. On the upside we got to see loads more entitled and judgemental attitude from Jane, so that was delightful. As the investigation and search for answers intensifies, Jane travels to Australia. There she discovers the dark secret that the Lanark family has kept hidden for decades. A secret that not only threatens to bring down a family dynasty, but also places Jane Tennison in mortal danger... Read all your books! Fantastic! Definitely my favourite author by far. Just finished Unholy Murder which was brilliant. Can’t wait to start Judas Horse now. Reply The elderly Helena Lanark now lives in a luxurious care home. Laced with gothic undertones in the centrepiece of the decaying Victorian mansion and the horrors hiding within, once home to an eccentric family with a long history of tragedy, this is a tightly plotted police procedural featuring realistic forensic science of the time period, and even a touch of romance for Jane, as well as trips to the coast and as far as Australia, exploring some dark and disturbing themes and complex characters through every navigation of the twisting plot. Throughout the series, discrimination - and specifically misogyny - within the police has been a running theme, once more explored in this novel alongside other abuses of power and the elusiveness of long-buried secrets. Lynda la plante is one of my favourite authors, I have read so many books by her, all of which I’ve loved. Ok, it wasn't annoying, so that's great. But the main character was do boring. And also drinks a lot! I mean, really a lot on a daily basis. A little bit funny when she goes on a rant about cannabis when she is basically a high functioning alcoholic herself. He protests in a convincing way, and Anna might just be giving in to his attention. What if he is put in jail for the crime, but he is innocent? Will he be able to deal with the media attention from that?

James Langton is hunting some illegal immigrants who killed a young prostitute; he is ruthless in his search for them. I've read all the books in this series so far and really enjoyed them but there is something about this particular book that is just 'off' for want of a better word.

I’m thinking of teaching an Osher adult learning course on Lynda La Plante. Any observations about her work most appreciated. Reply Her first book went over extremely well, and other famous novels came to follow. One of her best known stories is The Talisman, published in 1987, closely followed by Bella Mafia in 1990. Soon afterward, she began work on Prime Suspect, which starred Helen Mirren. This opened the door for La Plante to win an Edgar-Award from the Mystery-Writers of America for her impressive work on the show.

The brief storyline with the weed was so so so unneeded and began with ooh whats Eddie hiding and ended abruptly a chapter later, why? Jane Tennison herself was an extremely unlikable character and i often found myself frustrated with how she treated practically everyone around her.
