About this deal

Kelsier: The famed Survivor of Hathsin, a half-skaa Mistborn who led a revolution against the Lord Ruler. At the novella's beginning, Kelsier is killed by the Lord Ruler but refuses to pass on to the Beyond, and instead becomes trapped in the Cognitive Realm, between the Physical and Spiritual realms. Let’s touch on just a few specifics, and then I’ll open up the comments and y’all can dive in. One request, though: please keep ALL spoiler discussions to this thread (at least on Tor.com), so as not to spoil things for those who haven’t got this far. Especially, of your kindness to fellow readers, please don’t leak the identity of the main character—Kelsier. That man never could follow instructions. As you can see, Kelsier’s been a busy, busy boy. Will we learn more about him in The Lost Metal? What about this mysterious Trell? Will it be revealed to be the Big Bad of the series after all? Will Wax and Wayne wield weapons with wild wantonness? (Almost certainly on that score, let’s be honest.) There’s always another secret, but we’ll have answers to some as of November 15th! In the meantime, keep an eye out for a non-spoiler review of The Lost Metal coming up next week…

A dramatic and surprising climax . . . Sanderson’s saga of consequences offers complex characters and a compelling plot, asking hard questions about loyalty, faith and responsibility. Publishers Weekly Kelsier, sentenced to die mining the Pits of Hathsin after attempting to rob the Lord Ruler’s palace, arose as a powerful Mistborn and inspired the revolution that shook the foundations of the Final Empire. His name and deeds passed into legend.Firstborn · The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England · I Hate Dragons · Heuristic Algorithm and Reasoning Response Engine · The Rithmatist Transcendent . . . all the familiar ideas and plots from epic fantasy have been turned inside out, and what happens at the end is utterly astounding in its audacity. The characterization is stellar, the worldbuilding solid and the plot intricate and compelling—if you haven’t read the first two books, go and do so immediately then buy this one. You won’t regret it. Following the reorganization of the world, Kelsier recruits Spook, who, by virtue of Sazed's new power, is now able to see him, to help him regain a Connection to the Physical Realm by playing with Hemalurgy.

The Alloy of Law was initially conceived as one of several short stories Brandon wanted to set between the first and second main trilogies that eventually grew into a full novel, and then a series. [3] The Wax and Wayne series is a single four book series; The Alloy of Law stands more-or-less alone while the rest are plotted together like a trilogy. [4] In conjunction with Southern Scadrian technology, ettmetal can reproduce Allomantic or Feruchemical powers within its vicinity. The Southern Scadrians have also used the metal in primer cubes which can somehow regulate ettmetal’s effects with the flip of a switch. When used Allomantically, the metal is said to burn “with a pure whiteness” and will slowly be consumed, in the same way it would be by a Misting or Mistborn. It is used to fuel Southern Scadrian Allomantic technology, including their airships, which run via Steelpushing. Gave Entrone: An amateur archeologist who insulted Steris at a party. Wax thinks that he might have connections to the Set. Kelsier realizes that Ruin's power is incomplete until he finds the Lord Ruler's hidden cache of atium. He watches the battle at the Pits of Hathsin and Elend Venture's death at Marsh's hands. With her husband's death, Vin sacrifices herself to kill Ruin. Kelsier's long-time friend, Sazed takes up the powers of both Preservation and Ruin, ascending as Harmony. Kelsier tearfully reunites with Vin and watches as she too chooses to pass on to the Afterlife with Elend. After Harmony remakes the world, Kelsier speaks to Spook and recruits his help in getting him a new "string" to the physical realm.I think that rule—building something up, rather than tearing something down—is an even more difficult task than than overthrowing an enemy. We begin this book with Elend Venture on the throne, and Kelsier’s former crew forming his most trusted advisors and government officials. The city is under siege from Straff Venture, Elend’s father, a vicious tyrant. In one sense, the novel is about Elend, Vin, and the rest of the team struggling with politics and armies as they try not to lose control of the city. The first Mistborn trilogy chronicles the efforts of a secret group of Allomancers who attempt to overthrow a dystopian empire and establish themselves in a world covered by ash.

Note: This novella is included in Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection, now available in print, ebook, and audiobook from Tor (US/Canada) and Gollancz (UK/Commonwealth). Mistborn: Secret History is a companion story to the original Mistborn Trilogy. As such, it contains huge spoilers for the books Mistborn ( The Final Empire ), The Well of Ascension , and The Hero of Ages . It also contains very minor spoilers for the book The Bands of Mourning .  In November 2020 we saw the release of Rhythm of War—the fourth massive book in the New York Times #1 bestselling Stormlight Archive series that began with The Way of Kings—and Dawnshard (book 3.5), a novella set in the same world that bridges the gaps between the main releases. This series is my love letter to the epic fantasy genre, and it’s the type of story I always dreamed epic fantasy could be. The fifth volume, Wind and Truth, is set for release in fall 2024. Saying anything more here risks revealing too much. Even knowledge of this story’s existence is, in a way, a spoiler.

A fresh view of how a world can grow, building new dimensions into the best of the old. Sanderson continues to show that he is one of the best authors in the genre.” — Library Journal, starred review One of the loveliest things provided by this new angle, to my mind, is the sense of closure for two particular characters—and I know I’m not going to be the only one feeling this way. It was so burningly painful to see Elend and Vin die at the end of Hero of Ages; now we get a proper farewell, and recognize that they were content to go together into whatever lies Beyond the Realms. Okay, it made me cry all over again, but it felt a lot better this time! Not nearly so gut-wrenching, you know? Resurrecting characters is a "dangerous trope" because Brandon wants death to be a real danger for his characters. So he made sure that Kelsier's survival was hinted at and foreshadowed sufficiently. Mistborn Era 2 takes place 341 years after the events in the original trilogy, but there’s another little story that we hope you’ve also read that takes place between them— Mistborn: Secret History. This one will be important. I’m going to proceed with this article under the assumption that you’ve read it, so if you haven’t, there will be some MAJOR spoilers. Honestly though, you really, really need to read Secret History before Lost Metal drops. Harmony(fka Sazed): Harmony holds the shards of Ruin AND Preservation, and as such is (one of the) god(s) of Scadrial.
