They've always floated around in the DCU (see the brilliant I, Vampire New 52 series), but having them centre stage here makes for some fun set pieces and reveals as everything falls apart around our ears.

Matthew Rosenberg (with a story assist by James Tynion IV) manages to make the story believable even while never forgetting it's about superheroes and vampires, so it should be inherently dumb too. Rosenberg, I know mainly from his Marvel work, but he’s clearly a fan of DC, too, so he should know the voices of Batman and Wonder Woman, for instance. Yet another DC ‘what if’ story that’s so well written that it’s a shame the mainstream DC events aren’t this fun/ interesting.
