For later titles in the series, the publishers and Office Create joined together to form Cooking Mama Limited, which was made exclusively to develop the Cooking Mama series. This system must be updated to the latest system software and connected to the internet with automatic downloads enabled, and it must have enough storage to complete the download. Create 60 different recipes by taking part in over 160 different minigames, using the Nintendo 3DS Touch Screen and even the microphone to cool, slice, stir, bake and decorate their creations. Pick out fresh outfits for Mama from a range of colourful headscarves and aprons, and customise her house to match your taste with a range of decorations.

Each recipe includes one or two steps needed to make it and with them, the player can open their own cafe, where other users and NPC's would visit. Using only the stylus, you’re required to complete tasks like cracking an egg over a bowl, stirring a pot, or moving the temperature slide on a stove to prevent your meal from over-heating.

Each minigame represents a different activity in the meal preparation, such as mixing, frying, or chopping the provided ingredients.

The animal welfare group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) created a Flash game titled Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals [25] intended to both criticize the video game's use of meat-based recipes and to encourage veganism. Let's Combine: The player can select two dishes to combine, completing mini-games from both recipes. The central game in Cooking Mama invites players to earn awards for their culinary skills, and recipes can be traded with up to four other wannabe cooks via Wi-Fi link-up.The version of the game for iOS also takes advantage of the accelerometer in its devices with some similar gameplay to Cooking Mama: Cook Off. Actually making the dish is split up into multiple mini-games, all of which are very WarioWare-ish in nature. In the case of games that use cloud streaming technology, only the free launcher application can be downloaded.
